I lived in Los Angeles for 24 years but chose to move to rural North Carolina due to the pandemic. My mom is getting older, and I wanted to be near her. This piece is the first I wrote in my new home. It expresses the culmination of feelings I’ve had this last year: anguish, anxiety, hope, longing. The cello was done by a long-time collaborator, remotely – a sign of the times. It’ll go out to NPR affiliates and SiriusXM; I’ll play live when able. For fans of Max Richter, Enya, Olafur Arnalds.
