With ‘Things I Heard While in the Womb,’ Tom Caufield offers his most expansive musical statement to date. Keeping his distinctive contemplative guitar front and center, he’s added retro elements such as Moog Synthesizer, Vintage Fender Rhodes Piano, Arp Strings as well as dub elements, and on the epic, 23+ minute track ‘Waif Among the Reeds,’ a slow, mesmerizing back-beat groove.
Blessed with an ineffable touch on the fret board, Caufield’s music retains the relaxing elements of ambient while offering accessible hooks and defined melodies. It’s structurally simple, yet hints at the deeper metaphysical complexities and mysteries that daily haunt the back of our minds.
Intimate and epic, pastoral and dramatic, ‘Things I Heard While in the Womb’ will take you to a place you probably don’t visit often enough – your deeper self.
